This summer, help children connect with nature and discover the natural wonders of the Don Valley!  


Evergreen’s Adventure Camp allows young adventurers to explore the outdoors and build their connection to nature every day! Daily activities include exploring, biking, fire building, collaborative art, building, wild-crafting and interactive outdoor games and activities. 

In this role, Assistant Camp Counsellors will work alongside experienced staff and fellow volunteers to lead nature-based programming for campers aged 6-12 years old. Help us inspire a new generation of environmental stewards! 

Volunteers support Evergreen Adventure Camp in so many ways! Assistant Camp Counsellor responsibilities may include the following:  

  • Facilitating nature-based games 
  • Preparing and resetting activities
  • Setting up start of day activities before programming begins (i.e., crafts, games) 
  • Assisting in supervision of campers throughout the day
  • Modelling genuine interest in nature and day-to-day programming 

What You Bring: 

  • Must be 15 years old or older 
  • Enjoy or have experience working with children
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Comfortable working outside in various weather conditions (i.e., rain, heat, etc.)
  • Willing to learn to lead groups and facilitate games/activities
  • Interest in nature and ecology 

*NOTE: Volunteers 18 and older will be required to complete a virtual Police Record Check. All volunteers in this role will be required to sign our PRC - Annual Declaration form. Police Record Checks will be initiated and paid for by Evergreen, as part of the screening process. 

When and Where: Assistant Camp Counsellors must commit to at least two full weeks of camp. Adventure Camp runs from June 30th – August 29th with shifts from 8:30 AM-4:00 PM OR 9:30 AM-5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Evergreen Adventure Camp takes place at Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Ave) with programming happening on-site and in adjacent City of Toronto parks.  

How We’ll Support You: There will be a mandatory in person training session the week of June 23 – June 27 (exact date and time TBD) with additional field and program training happening during camp programming from staff and experienced volunteers. Training will include a program overview, safety protocols, and game/activity facilitation tips.

  • Prospective volunteers will be contacted via phone call to learn bit more about yourself and why you are interested in this role 
  • Successful candidates (18+) are required to have an acceptable Police Records Check (We will help you with this). All volunteers are required to sign our PRC Annual Declaration Form.

To Become an Assistant Camp Counsellor:

  • Participate in an in-person group interview (week of June 7-14)
  • Participate in an in-person training session (week of June 23-27)
  • Provide contact information for two references or send us a letter of recommendation.
  • Begin the police record check process (initiated during the group interview).
  • Read and sign Evergreen’s Volunteer Agreement Form prior to your first shift.

Qualifications Required
