Sign-up to join Evergreen's Garden Circle in Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026!

Garden Circle is Evergreen’s beloved and long running volunteer gardening and stewardship program. Garden Circle volunteers will work alongside expert gardeners on tasks relating to horticulture, urban agriculture, restoration and ecology. What does this mean in practice? Planting seeds, weeding, mulching, many nature walks, learning plant ID, taking out invasive plants, picking up trash and more! Volunteers in this program can take pride in helping nature flourish while creating connections with their community, and expanding their understanding of how to support regenerative landscapes that benefit all.   

👉 What You Bring:       

  • Are passionate about gardening, nature and urban agriculture  
  • Enjoy working outside and want to get your hands dirty,   
  • Are comfortable with low-intensity physical work (squatting, kneeling, pulling)   
  • Are willing to work in some inclement weather (light rain, hot days, etc.)  
  • Can respect and adhere to Health and Safety protocols as identified by staff to ensure the safety of all Evergreeners;   
  • Are at least 15 years old or older. Volunteers 14 years old and under need to volunteer alongside a parent or guardian.    

🌟 Tasks & Responsibilities:   

  • Urban ecology restoration and stewardship tasks including invasive plant monitoring and management,  
  • Native plant gardening including tasks like planting, weeding, watering, soil building and seed saving,  
  • Urban agriculture activities focused on food producing gardens and edible landscapes,  
  • Compost knowledge sharing and care  
  • Creating garden-related infrastructure (e.g. weaving willow fencing)   
  • Site stewardship including picking up garbage.    

When: Garden Circle shifts take place twice a week on:   

  • Tuesday mornings from 10am to 12pm 
  • Thursday evenings from 5pm to 7pm  

Note: Garden Circle Sessions begin May 5th and are expected to run until late October (weather dependent).  

 

Garden Circle shifts will be open to a *maximum of 25 volunteers*. Volunteers will sign-up for all shifts/sessions on a first come-first served basis. Due to limited spaces, volunteers are asked to remove themselves from schedules if their availability changes to make space for other volunteers.   
 

📍 Where & Getting Here:  Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Ave). Accessible by TTC bus at Davisville Station or our free shuttle bus outside Broadview Station. Commitment Expectation:  Volunteers are encouraged to join us for a Garden Circle session from May-September, contributing at least 1 shift per month.   

🌳 How We Will Support You: Garden Circle continuously onboards through the spring, summer and fall. We'll share an info package with you once we see you sign-up and you will be supported by staff through the duration of program sessions.

🔎 Good to Know: Garden Circle volunteers need to dress for the weather, as we work through light rain. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are required. Please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Activities will vary depending on the week and site needs.
