The Brick Works site welcomes over 500000 visitors annually. Welcome Desk Ambassador will work to showcase the power of placemaking, engage with visitors through storytelling, collect visitor feedback and statistics, and support fun activations.Welcome Desk Ambassador will act as a key point of contact for the public, creating a genuine and positive connection with visitors throughout the site. They will spark engaging and exciting conversations about our work, collect contact information for interested visitors, as well as answer any questions.
As a Welcome Desk Ambassador, you will be helping to bring the site to life, drawing more public attention and support for the continued success of programming at the Brick Works.
👉 What You Bring:
- Friendly, outgoing and comfortable engaging with new people
- Previous customer service experience is an asset
- Confident answering questions, providing directions, and assisting visitors
- Strong English communication skills; additional languages are an asset
- Familiarity with the Brick Works site is an asset
- Self-motivated, reliable, and collaborative team player
- Able to commit to at least 3 Welcome Desk Ambassador shifts per month from June–December
- Must be 18 years of age or older
🌟 Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Welcome and engage visitors at the Evergreen Brick Works Welcome Desk
- Provide up-to-date information about Evergreen programs, events, the site, and surrounding area while encouraging guests to explore the space and get involved
- Assist visitors with wayfinding and general inquiries in person and over the phone
- Facilitate light-touch activations such as mini-workshops, tours, and passive programming activities to enrich visitor's experience
- Assist, support, and curate engagement projects for facilitation with the Public including passive programming.
- Support Welcome Desk Hosts as they build confidence and knowledge in the role
- Deliver a high standard of visitor service using Evergreen’s G.U.I.D.E customer service approach
- Assist with public engagement projects, visitor surveys, and programming support as needed
- Provide operational support across team (Evergreen Garden Market (EGM) staff), including light retail and organizational tasks such as restocking shelves, preparing materials, stickering items, and light cleaning duties
Note: This role requires a higher level of engagement and responsibility. We’re seeking motivated, committed and engaged individuals to support regular shifts throughout the year and to help shape positive visitor experiences while onsite. ⏰ When: Welcome Desk Ambassador shifts will take place 7 days a week at Evergreen Brick Works. Please note that shifts on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays are of the highest priority. We encourage volunteers to sign up for these shifts first. Shifts are scheduled on weekends and weekdays from 10:00am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-3:00pm.
📍 Where & Getting Here: Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Ave). Accessible by TTC bus at Davisville Station or our free shuttle bus outside Broadview Station. ✨ Commitment: Onboarded volunteers will be asked to commit to a minimum of 3 shifts per month from June until December, with at least one shift being on a priority day (Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays). Once completed, volunteers are more than welcome to stay on beyond December and commit for a longer period!
Note: If you are an Evergreen Tour Guide or a member of the craft club and have signed up for a tour guide / craft club shift on the same day, you are welcome to work around both roles.
🔎 Good to Know:
- Prospective volunteers will be contacted via a phone call to learn a bit more about yourself (e.g. skills, experiences, interests, etc.) and why you are interested in this role.
- In your application, be sure to indicate if you have a preferred day of the week to volunteer at the Welcome Desk.
- Successful applicants will need to attend a mandatory orientation & training on June 18th from 11am-12:30pm. The orientation will be in-person at Evergreen Brick Works. Meeting location and other details will be shared once volunteers sign up.
- Volunteers will be engaging with members of the public in this role.
- Volunteers may be asked in outstanding circumstances to support other tasks (e.g. set-up, tear-down, tidying, etc.) during shifts.
- Evergreen will soon be opening a new welcome centre (Building 14) and ravine centre, featuring an Indigenous storefront and welcome centre (Building 1). Welcome Host Ambassadors and Welcome Desk Hosts will Volunteers will be invited to play an integral role in shaping visitor experience in these new locations this fall.
🌳 How We Will Support You: Welcome Desk Ambassadors will receive comprehensive customer service and Evergreen organizational training. Volunteers will also receive regular communications from the Visitor Engagement team with important information about the site and upcoming programming. Evergreen staff and experienced volunteers will provide ongoing training, support and feedback both on-site and by phone/e-mail. There will always be staff available for emergencies. Volunteers are encouraged to seek support on Mondays and Tuesdays from EGM staff. Volunteers will be working alongside Visitor Engagement staff between Wednesday and Sundays.
🤝 Perks & What You'll Gain: As a Welcome Desk Ambassador you will build and enhance your customer service skills, meet lots of interesting people and function as a key part of bringing awareness to visitors about Evergreen’s work and programs. As there is an opportunity to develop passion projects with our team, share those projects with the public, and grow with the program as a volunteer.
