At St. Joseph's Care Group, together we make a difference.

Our volunteers are supporting our mission by impacting the lives of the clients and residents we serve across 6 sites. If you are a caring, compassionate and committed individual, who enjoys spending time with people, apply to join our team. 

What to Expect:

Volunteering is an important responsibility. Please make sure that this is a good time in your life for such a commitment. We ask:

  1. You volunteer 2-4 hours, once a week
  2. For a minimum initial commitment of three months

Please note that some volunteer positions may be limited to weekdays only. 

Application Process:

Volunteer Services staff are here to help you join our team. We will work with you to complete the selection process which includes:

  • Interview
  • Reference Checks (not from family or friends)
  • Police Record Check
  • Health Assessment (including vaccinations & TB Skin test)
  • Orientation
  • Training

Individuals who speak a second language including French, Finnish, Italian, Ojibway, Cree, Oji-Cree, etc. are encouraged to apply.

Help staff by spending time visiting with clients. Volunteer visits help clients to feel connected and reduce feelings of loneliness or isolation. The goal is to help clients to feel independent and increase their quality and enjoyment of life. 

 

Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) Volunteer

Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) Volunteer

Support staff to improve the experience of hospitalized older patients. HELP utilizes specific interventions to keep older adults oriented to their surroundings and mobile within the limitations of their physical condition, while meeting their needs of nutrition, hydration and sleep.

Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

Help staff with recreation programs. This includes helping staff provide activities and connecting with clients to reduce loneliness. The goal is to increase the quality and enjoyment of life of our clients.

 

Spiritual Care Assistant

Spiritual Care Assistant

Help staff by assisting clients to participate in Spiritual services of their choice.

Client and Family Partner

Client and Family Partner

Current or former client or family member/caregiver of St. Joseph’s Care Group who wants to share their insights about care to improve the care experience. Client and Family Partner involvement helps ensure our work reflects input from the people we serve. Some examples: committee membership, interview panel member, focus groups or special projects.

Mealtime Companion

Mealtime Companion

                       

Help staff by encouraging and assisting residents to eat and enjoy their meal in a calm and sociable environment, helping make the dining experience a positive one. Additional training provided.

 

Location: Bethammi and Hogarth Riverview Manor

Availability: 8:30 am / 12:00 pm / 5:00 pm, weekdays/weekends

 

 

 

Hair Salon Assistant

Hair Salon Assistant

 

Help the hair dresser with residents receiving services in the hair salon. Assist with salon set-up and clean-up, accompanying and portering residents in wheelchairs to their appointments and help with salon duties.

WayFinder / Greeter

 

Provide a warm welcome by greeting visitors to the building and helping to direct visitors and residents to units or departments.

Condolence Cards

Condolence Cards

Assist with organizing and mailing condolence cards to families who have lost loved ones. This role requires 1 - 2 hours monthly.
