Program Area/Name: Zomi Cultural Camp with Powell Butte SUN with Zomi Association of the United States
Locations: In-person Oliver Middle school (15840 SE Taylor St, Portland, OR 97233, United States)
Schedule: July 13th to July 31st Monday to Friday from 9am -12 pm. However, if you can volunteer only a specific dates, please apply for the position.
Time Commitment: 3 weeks
Program Description: Volunteers play a vital role in making this cultural camp a success. By getting involved, you can: Foster Cultural Identity: Guide and mentor US-born Zomi students as they learn about their heritage. Build Community: Connect with families and students living across the Portland, Oregon area. Make an Impact: Share your own experiences while helping to preserve and pass on Zomi traditions.
Position Details:

Supervise the students in their class during school and at recess.

Prepare and teach Zomi language and cultural lessons

*Books and lesson plans will be provided upon request
Volunteer Experience & Impact:

Qualifications:

Volunteer must be a Zomi speaking individual and have familiarity and/or lived experience in Zomi culture and community

Must be able to commute regularly to SUN site

Ability to pass a Oregon Department of Education fingerprint background check
