The role of a volunteer at Eastern Health is to enhance the experience of patients, families and visitors who attend our sites.
If you meet the criteria listed below and would like to be considered for a volunteer position, have a look at our current vacancies and submit an application.
Eastern Health volunteers must be:
- over 18 years of age
- willing to undertake an online police check (arranged by Eastern Health)
- willing to have an annual influenza vaccination.
- strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice).
- willing to sign a Position Description and Volunteer Agreement
- willing and able to wear appropriate PPE including N95 Masks
- commit to a minimum of 12 months (Hospital Elder Life Program is flexible)
- able to attend a 3-4 hour volunteer shift weekly or fortnightly
- respect and maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times
- dependable and reliable
- willing to apply for a Working with Children Check (WWCC) if the role requires it.
- be competent in the use of computers for mandatory online training (support can be provided)

Hospital Elder Life Program Volunteer Role
Preventing Delirium one patient at a time
This is an evidence-based program that aims to prevent delirium and functional decline in older, hospitalised patients. Prescribed by the American Geriatric Society, volunteers provide warmth, companionship, encouragement and daily activities as prescribed by the multidisciplinary medical team.
Delirium is a sudden state of confusion or change in mental state that can cause a loss of functioning. Many different factors can contribute to the onset of delirium. It is short term and it is preventable and curable.

Opportunity Shop - Angliss Hospital
The Angliss Opportunity Shop is a heart-warming place run solely by volunteers. Its purpose is to raise money for Eastern Health Angliss. The close-knit team keep the shop running by sorting, tagging, merchandising and selling donated goods. if you love a community feel, have great organisation skills and love a good chat, this is the role for you.
Examples of duties include:
- Help in the retail op shop with sales of donated goods
- Document sales
- Stock clothes racks/shelves
- Process donated goods and label items for sale
- Maintain a clean shop space
Community Support Volunteer - murrenda Aged Care Wantirna
The role of the volunteer is to assist the Leisure and Lifestyle Activity Staff to deliver engaging and appropriate activities, outings, entertainment and enhancing the experiences for the people who live in the Eastern Health residential aged care homes
Volunteers are members of a team and it is appreciated that they offer their services strictly in a voluntary capacity. Volunteers are an integral part of the team and as such are accorded the highest respect by staff, residents and their families.
