As a Cleaning and General Maintenance Volunteer at Cooktown Museum, you'll be helping make the museum an inspiring, interesting, and safe environment for all visitors. You'll be joining a small, tight-knit team full of passionate heritage professionals and volunteers, so whether you enjoy working independently or alongside others, this role offers a rewarding and enjoyable way to make a difference in our community.
Your duties will involve:
- Dusting, sweeping, and polishing the glass encasing exhibits and artefacts.
- Ensuring the museum is a clean and safe place for guests to visit.
- When applicable, assisting heritage staff with artefact cleaning and case redisplay.
- Undertaking simple, general maintenance tasks like changing light-bulbs.
- Reporting any concerns to the Heritage Site Manager.
- Communicating clearly with the Site Manager about potential issues, hazards, disruptions to guest experiences, or risk to the property or collection.
You're a great fit for the role if you are:
- Friendly and approachable.
- Tidy and hold yourself to a high standard of cleanliness.
- Physically able to perform the role outlined.
- Willing to work as part of a friendly team but also to work independently.
When can I volunteer?
- Ideally, we request a commitment of one 3-hour shift a week. If you have specific requirements, this can always be discussed on application. Induction and training will be provided.
