Prostate Cancer Awareness - Support Onsite, Make a Difference in One Day!

Date: Thursday 11th June 2026
Location: Acton Market
Address: The Mount/King Street, London W3 9NW
Timings: 10:00am - 4:30pm
Volunteers: up to 4 volunteers
Who will see the difference? Underserved communities who are at greater risk of developing prostate cancer
The Healthy Ealing Team (part of West London NHS Trust) are planning a community Prostate Cancer Awareness & Testing Day on Thursday 11th June for World Prostate Day. We our being supported by The Prostate Project, who will be on site with a health van (or “Man Van”!) to provide information and carry out health checks. The event will be held at Acton Market
Although open to all men, we are specifically aiming to engage Black men within the local community, as we know Black men are at a significantly higher risk of developing prostate cancer and are often less likely to access early testing and support.
These will be a fantastic opportunity for you to greet and accommodate.
The volunteering activity
We're looking for volunteers to support on the day by helping to create a welcoming and supportive environment for attendees. The role would involve:
- Welcoming and engaging members of the public
- Helping direct attendees to the appropriate stalls/services
- Supporting queue management and general event flow
- Encouraging conversations around prostate health and awareness
- Helping attendees feel comfortable and supported throughout the event
As this is a male‑focused event, we’re hoping to recruit four male volunteers to support value‑added, peer‑to‑peer engagement alongside our currently all‑female staff team. Given the increased risk of prostate cancer among Black men, we particularly encourage volunteers from Black communities who feel able to get involved.
Considerations:
You are likely to be on your feet for significant periods on the day. As we will be in a marketplace, there are no car park facilities in the immediate area, however there are car parks nearby (Acton Carpark and Oaks Shopping Centre Carpark).
