Who will see the difference? Residents of Ealing borough currently smoking and experiencing health inequalities
We are working with Ealing Council and West London NHS Trust to deliver outreach campaigns to help residents manage their smoking habits. The aim of these events is to engage with the community, provide information on the benefits of quitting smoking, and connect residents with our support services. This is a great opportunity to help individuals improve their health and wellbeing while addressing health inequalities.
We are looking for volunteers to support our smoke-free outreach events and campaigns. Your role will help engage with the community and provide information on the benefits of quitting smoking.
The volunteering activity
The Ealing Smokefree Service is seeking 3 male volunteers to support community engagement at an upcoming event at Acton Mosque.
This opportunity plays a crucial role in improving community health and supporting residents on their smoke‑free journey through culturally aware, respectful conversations.
- Engaging with residents to raise awareness of smokefree services and the support available
- Demonstrating cultural humility — approaching every interaction with openness, active listening, and an understanding that each person’s experience is unique
- Applying cultural competence, ensuring conversations are sensitive to faith‑based values, family roles, community norms, and cultural perspectives around smoking
- Showing awareness and respect for the lived experiences, traditions, and priorities of the Muslim community at Acton Mosque
- Helping us tailor messages so they are relevant, respectful, and effective for the local community
Considerations
During the events there will always be a tobacco dependence specialist and health improvement practitioner available to support with any queries. There will also be a debrief after each event to offer support to our volunteers.
