Current Volunteer Positions - Community Centre Helper 2026 (Killarney Community Centre)

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is a multicultural, multi-service agency assisting people at all stages of their Canadian experience. The Seniors Academy at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. aims to engage immigrant seniors in a wide range of activities to increase social connectedness, improve knowledge and skills that impact their physical and mental well-being. We also do community outreaches by collaborating with Community Centres within Vancouver to provide programs for older adults in the neighbourhood.

The Community Centre Helper helps to provide entry-level English conversational classes for Mandarin & Cantonese speaking seniors. Applicants must have proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin (trilingual).

Location: Killarney Community Centre (6260 Killarney St, Vancouver, BC V5S 2X7) 

Shifts: Must be free during Friday (9:30am – 11:00 am) on the following days:

  • April 10th, April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, May 8th, May 15th, May 22nd, May 29th, June 5th, June 12th, June 19th, June 26th

Minimum requirement is 6 shifts to provide consistency to seniors, with preference for those who can do all days.

Duties: 

  • Lead the English Conversational read-along materials
  • Take attendance
  • Maintain the order of the class

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to communicate in Mandarin/ Cantonese and English
  • Good customer service skills
  • A free Criminal Record Check is required before starting the role
  • Ability to help for more than 6 weeks, preferably the whole season as we want consistency for the seniors

Reports to: Directly to the Program Officer responsible for Seniors Academy 

Training and orientation provided: 

  • In role training provided by the Program Officer
  • Materials provided by the Program Officer
  • Ongoing support and training as needed
