Special Events - Belong Here: Newcomer Welcome Fair Volunteers Needed!

The Richmond Local Immigration Partnership is hosting the Belong Here: Newcomer Welcome Fair on Thursday, September 24th. This fair will provide newcomers with the opportunity to meet with different organizations showcasing their settlement programs and services alongside other community resources, family friendly activities, workshops, and tours. We are currently recruiting volunteers to support with this event, please see below for the details: 

 

Belong Here: Newcomer Welcome Fair Volunteer

Event Date and Time: Thursday, September 24th, 4:00pm-7:00pm

Location: Richmond Public Library, Brighouse Branch (7700 Minoru Gate #100, Richmond, BC V6Y 4C1)

Duties: 

  1. Set-up Volunteers: 2:30pm-4:30pm
    • Help prepare the venue with decor, signage, and other event materials
    • Support loading zones for vendors and help with their setup materials
    • Prepare the registration tables with proper sign-in sheets, pens, nametags, maps, etc.
    • Organize activity stations

 

  1. Registration and Info Volunteers/Refreshment Area Volunteers*: 3:30pm-7:00pm (*if you sign up for this shift time, you are okay with being either a registration volunteer OR refreshment volunteer-you will be assigned day of)
    • Welcome participants as they arrive
    • Check-in participants and provide them with any necessary materials
    • Answer inquiries from the public about the event and facilities 
    • Help direct participants to proper areas
    • Keep food and drink area tidy
    • Monitor lineup and keep things orderly
    • Give out food and refreshments according to event instructions
    • Keep an eye on garbage bins and waste sorting stations
    • Food Safe Level 1 is an asset

 

  1. Takedown Volunteers: 6:45pm-8:30pm)
    • Help pack supplies, signage, and other materials once the event is over
    • Support event vendors, activity booths, refreshment area, and registration/info booth with takedown

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Friendly, courteous attitude
  • Ability to confidently speak to members of the public
  • Food Safe Level 1 is an asset
  • While not a requirement, the ability to speak a 2nd language is an asset
