Walkmill Community Woodlands - Learning & Engagement Volunteer
The National Lottery funded A Wilder Walkmill project aims to improve Walkmill Community Woodlands, near Moresby, Whitehaven for people and wildlife and encourage greater use of this fabulous community resource. Walkmill Community Woodland is a vital and much-loved open space and is important because of its significant natural and industrial heritage. ‘A Wilder Walkmill’ aims to improve access for all, create new and improved habitats to support nature recovery, increase volunteering opportunities, events and activities for the local community, and provide education sessions and forest schools. In order to tell the story of the site to all its visitors we are looking for a volunteer(s) to help us record stories, collect information and help with co-creation events.
Volunteer Role Summary:- We are looking for a budding volunteer to help the project’s Learning and Engagement Officer and Volunteer Coordinator to organise and deliver events, activities and learning sessions. These will take place at the Walkmilll Community Woodland in local schools and other venues around Moresby and Copeland. Tasks may include:
- Helping to organise co-creation sessions with local school pupils on and off the community woodland site.
- Helping local school pupils and young people to interview and record oral history stories from local residents.
- Helping with object handling sessions.
- Helping deliver field trip activities.
- Helping deliver forest schools sessions.
- Helping deliver events.
