Wine and Whiskers 2026 - SHIFT 5
SHIFT 5: 4 P.M. - 7 P.M.
GENERAL EVENT SUPPORT - 3 volunteers needed. We’ll need some extra hands to do all the things we haven’t thought of or handle basic needs. We just need someone flexible who can lend a hand to anything in the moment - you might be refilling ice, you might be emptying trash, you might be giving another volunteer a bathroom break. You will be saving our lives no matter what the task. Duties could possibly include:
-
Floater volunteer support based on area of need
-
Trash/recycling container emptying
-
Busing of tables if people leave items around
-
Bathroom maintenance (simply notify staff if something needs addressed)
BARTENDING (MUST BE 21 OR OLDER TO STAFF) - 3 volunteers needed. Each ticket gets 2 drink tickets, including soft drinks/seltzer water. After drink tickets are used, drinks may be purchased. We will have beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. The cocktails will be pre-mixed and simply be poured via a dispenser. Duties include:
-
check IDs
-
collect ticket, serve drink requested
-
cashier to sell additional drinks
-
keep drink supply (including water dispenser) stocked
SILENT AUCTION/ART SALE SUPPORT - 2 volunteers needed. There are silent auction items in the North Gallery as well as scattered throughout the building. Remind bidders the proceeds go to support RHHS and were generously donated by local businesses and individuals. There is also an art sale where artists donated work to help support RHHS. Those items can be purchased immediately, no bidding required. RHHS Board Members will handle running sales. Silent Auction winners will be notified ASAP and we will make arrangements to get their items to them. Duties include:
-
encourage bidding/purchases
-
help explain bidding through BetterWorld if get questions
-
watch merchandise to ensure purchase, not 5-finger discounts
-
direct buyers to cashier’s table
SCREENPRINTER ASSISTANTS - 2 volunteers needed. Shelter dogs will be creating one-of-a-kind shirts (with your help!) for our screenprinters to print over with local art. The shirts will be ready within 20 minutes, as long as we have inventory. If we go through all the shirts, we’ll take orders. Volunteers will help keep dogs separated, ensure they have water, encourage them to create paintings (put paint on a shirt, but shirt inside bag, cover bag w/ treat so dog licks paint around shirt, give shirt to screenprinters), talk to guests about the process and how it’s part of our enrichment program at the shelter, and help screenprinters in any way necessary. Duties include:
-
handle shelter dogs
-
help shelter dogs paint
-
help screenprinting team as assigned (taking orders, crowd control, etc.
MY WISH FOR SHELTER PETS ASSISTANTS - 2 volunteers needed. One of the exhibits will be a table where guests will be asked to write down their one wish for shelter pets on a sticky note. The idea is that they will say the things we all want - no homeless pets, no hungry pets, no unwanted pets, no abused animals, no surrenders due to housing or finances, etc. You’ll ask them to write down their wish, collect it from them, and begin sorting them into the basic categories we believe they’ll fall under - HOUSING, SPAY/NEUTER, VET CARE, BEHAVIOR, etc. Around 6:30 p.m., you’ll take the wishes to Studio Colorado and post them under those headings on the walls of the room. The wishes will be mentioned during the program as we talk to our supporters about the work they have told us they want to do and how we need their financial help to make it happen. (It’ll be phrased much better than that.) Duties include:
-
encourage participation by guests
-
sort wishes into categories
-
install wishes exhibit in Studio Colorado prior to program start
REUNIFICATION EXHIBIT ASSISTANT - 1 volunteer needed. One of the exhibits will be a table where guests can learn about microchips, the value of a collar and tag on their pet, and read the story of Yoshi who went missing for two months and was in our care until his owner just happened to see him in one of our Facebook posts. They were happily reunited - but they never should have been separated in the first place. This exhibit is all about prevention. We’ll have our tag machine there, info about microchips, and if people register their pet with DocuPet while standing there, they can enter to win a free GPS tracker and subscription from DocuPet. Duties include:
-
encouraging people to view the exhibit
-
create ID tag using machine for guests who request one
-
allow guests to register to win GPS tracker after they register their pet with DocuPet
