River Valley Conservation

Purpose: 

Conservation Project Assistants help to steward the river valley and help to maintain it in its natural beauty.  Supporting the mission and vision, the Conservation Project Assistant represents the Nature Centre in the community by helping with projects like Coulee Clean-Up, Shoreline Clean-Up, Invasive Weed Pulls, and other conservation projects. 

Location:

Conservation Projects take place in various locations throughout the river valley.

Role:

  • Help with conservation projects

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation and ongoing maintenance of Clean-Up kits.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of conservation projects (like placing signage and sign-in forms).
  • Compile statistics of garbage and/or invasive plants removed.
  • Ensure participant safety by using personal protective equipment.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards.
  • Identify large items for removal by Parks staff.
  • Participate in citizen science programs like Bio DataBase by submitting sightings.
  • Pick up garbage.
  • Promote stewardship and shared responsibility of natural spaces.
  • Provide light trail maintenance.
  • Remove invasive weeds.
  • Walk the River Valley trails.
  • Work with large groups of volunteers in a professional manner.
