Youth Programs
This volunteer opportunity is currently available at:
- Lakewood Library - *Please note that this volunteer role will not begin until October 2026, when fall story times begin at Lakewood.* This volunteer role will assist with story times on Tuesdays from 10:00-12:00. This volunteer opportunity will typically be weekly with periodic breaks in the story time schedule.
- Summit Library - Volunteer shifts will be with a monthly children's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) program typically held on Tuesday afternoons/evenings.
Interested in assisting staff with programs for youth?
Position Description: Under the direction of Library staff leading programs, Youth Program Volunteers may perform the following tasks:
Set up and take down tables, chairs, and other materials for library programs for youth ages 0-19 and their families
Greet customers as they arrive, answer basic questions and count attendees
Take photos/videos and encourage participation in surveys
Suggest pre-determined alternate activities and accessibility support items to attendees, as needed
Hold up additional copies of books and props during story time or assist with demonstrations during presentations
Qualifications & Skills Needed:
14 or older
Basic customer service skills
Experience working or volunteering with youth preferred
Time commitment: Minimum 1 2-hour shift a month. Schedule varies by location.
Physical requirements: Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.

Orientation to program set up, goals, and expectations
