Why volunteer? Volunteers are given the opportunity to meet new people and assist those in need while contributing to the community. In collaboration with staff and residents,  CapitalCare works to design rewarding volunteer programs that offer volunteers various roles throughout the CapitalCare Long Term Care homes.  Volunteers show commit to assisting residents, focusing on enhancing the quality of life. 

Volunteer Opportunities offered

Mealtime Assistance, Recreation Assistant, Pet Visitors, Friendly Visits, Spiritual Care, Gift Shop and seasonal outside such as Gardening.

Please note my on-site schedule

  • Thursday and Friday — 8am – 4pm

Before You Submit Your Application

  • Ensure you are able to commit to a minimum of 60 hours
  • Ensure your application form is complete and detailed.
  • It is especially important to fill in your availability—meaning the days and times you are most likely able to volunteer.
  • When filling out your application, write down your username and password. Once you are registered, this login information will be used to sign in and out at the volunteer kiosk each time you volunteer.

Application preference is given to individuals who are:

  • Mature and 17+
  • Independent and self-motivated
  • Able to volunteer 60+ hours in total
  • Available primarily on weekdays

For experienced and independent volunteers, there are volunteer opportunities during evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays

Preparing for Your Interview

To help you feel ready and confident, please take some time to research:

After your interview, I will provide

  1. A formal letter addressed to Edmonton Police Service or the RCMP ( depending on where you live) so you can obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check (VSCRC)
  2. A CapitalCare reference form for you to collect two references

Your orientation will be scheduled once you have both

  • Your clear VSCRC, and
  • Two completed reference forms

Interviews and orientations are held in person during my hours of work listed above, and usually take about one hour each.

  • Interviews and orientations are scheduled through the email you provide, please check your inbox and junk/spam folder.
  • Depending on my schedule, your schedule and how quickly your VSCRC and references are completed, following the interview the entire intake process may take up to three weeks.
