Community Support - Olive Branch Outreach Society - Board of Directors and Volunteers
What are the Volunteer duties or responsibilities?
Board of Directors: are responsible for maintaining the day to day operation or the organization, creating and implementing events, fundraisers, and programs, directing volunteers, attending events and fundraisers, facilitating programs and training course (as needed), working with clients* and other such responsibilities as directed by the Board of Directors from time to time.
Volunteers: are responsible for attending events, fundraisers, creating and implementing program, fundraiser ideas, facilitating programs and courses (as needed), working with clients* and other such responsibilities as they arise from time to time, as directed by the Board of Directors or Program Supervisor(s).
*All members of the Board of Directors and any volunteers who are working directly with clients of the Olive Branch Outreach Society require a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sectors check, from your local police service. A letter will be provided.
Volunteers may be any age from 9 to 90. However, only those over the age of 18 may become active members of the Board of Directors. Anyone under the age of 14 will be supervised by a volunteer 16 and older and will not be assigned to work directly with clients of the Olive Branch Outreach Society. Other volunteer responsibilities for persons under the age of 16 will be at the discretion of both the Board of Directors and the parents, or guardians, of said person.
Education/Knowledge Required
The Olive Branch Outreach Society does not require our Board of Directors or volunteers to have any special training. However, anyone with past experience in working with seniors, children, families, the unhoused, or other such vulnerable communities is considered an asset. We also take into consideration certification in such areas as Mental Health training, Health Care (HCA, Nursing, etc.), Social Work, Pastoral Care and any other field related to community and social services as an asset. We do require that all members of the Board of Directors and volunteers to have current Basic First Aid Training with CPR/AED certification. This can be obtained in house as the Olive Branch has a Red Cross certified instructor on board.

Besides gaining life experience and knowledge. This is a great way to gain on the job training for individuals who are pursuing careers in such fields as Social Work, Addictions Counselling, Psychology, Child Care, Health Care; such as Nursing, EMT, Paramedic, HCA and other related fields. When you join the Olive Branch Outreach Society you become a member of an extended family that works together to support our communities. We not only provide support and comfort for the most vulnerable members of our communities but for each other as well.
Time commitment required
Board Members: 2 to 3 hours on Saturday a month, except for July and December, plus any time required to plan and implement events, fundraisers and programs. Board Members are required to attend a minimum of 3 board meetings per year.
Volunteers: time allotments may vary depending on the event, fundraiser or program the volunteer is working on. We do require that each volunteer attend a minimum of 2 functions per year.
