What are the Volunteer duties or responsibilities?
Board member responsibilities vary greatly depending on individual experience and interests. Currently, we're looking for board members with publishing skills to help with our annual anthology publication, computer skills to help with our virtual poetry readings on Zoom, some administrative experience to assist with board operations, or who are happy extroverts to help host our poetry readings both on Zoom and in-person.
Education/Knowledge Required
Board member responsibilities vary greatly depending on individual experience and interests. For 2026-2027, we're looking for board members with any of the following skills:
-be an inclusive team player: our board membership is mostly local, but our society membership spans the globe and includes ages 12-99, so an ability to interact pleasantly with anyone and everyone is essential
-operating Zoom for hosting virtual meetings
-administrative skills in minute-taking and documentation
-grant writing
-event hosting and facilitation
-some experience with microphones, speakers and/or amplifiers
-a general willingness and ability to figure things out quickly if technology
**no knowledge of poetry, poetic forms, or poets is required**

-a creative outlet where you can spearhead projects and community endeavors for work experience with the support of experienced board members and project managers
-you can put "Member, Board of Directors" on your resume/portfolio
Time commitment required
One-year term for 2026-2027, beginning after our AGM in March 2026.
**Volunteers for the board MUST be in attendance at our AGM on March 14th, 2pm, at the Stony Plain library, and elected by our membership.
Typical board member time commitment is 3-12 hours/month, including:
-attending one monthly 90-minute board meeting,
-participating on a committee, supporting poetry readings as mic host or technical support, or performing administrative duties.
