Youth Engagement - Girl Guides of Canada - Unit Guiders and Treasurers

Spruce Grove District of Girl Guides of Canada is seeking Unit Guiders and Unit Treasurers to support units in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain for the 2025-26 guiding year.

Volunteering with girls in a unit means planning regular unit meetings, facilitating girl-driven programming, and creating a safe space for laughter, creativity and confidence building. You’ll be an influential part of girls' lives as you lead them through fun activities, outdoor adventures, community service projects, Girl Guide cookie sales and more. Each unit meeting lasts between 1-2 hours, depending on the age of the girls. Meetings usually include a mix of fun program activities such as games, crafts, science experiments, singing, baking, or anything else you and the girls in your unit wish to try! Our program platform provides a library of fun activities for each age group to explore and earn badges. No prior Guiding experience is required, just a desire to be part of our vision of a better world, by girls!

The Unit Treasurer looks after the unit books and makes sure money is deposited to the centralized GGC banking system in a timely fashion, keeps the other Guiders informed of the unit finances, and ensures the money to cover unit expenses is in the bank. The Treasurer uses online banking to look after the Unit finances. You are supported by online training sessions offered by experienced members of the organization and there is a "helpline" for any unit banking questions.

Benefits to the Volunteer
Volunteering with Girl Guides is:
Fun – fill your cup with laughter, smiles and happy chaos.
Rewarding – when you create a space for girls to just be, you’ll see their confidence grow week after week.
Life-changing – develop marketable skills such as communication, event planning and leadership
Unforgettable – meet some of your new favourite people and build unbreakable bonds.

Volunteers have the opportunity to make connections with other Girl Guide members, participate in training and skill sessions, and to have a positive impact on their communities. There are also the opportunity to apply for scholarships, awards, and international travel.

Time commitment required
Units usually meet on a weekly basis from September through to May or June. Volunteers commit 1-2 hours per week to facilitate unit meetings. More time may be required for unit planning and facilitating trips or events if that interests you.

Start Date - September 1, 2025
