Town of Stony Plain Volunteer Opportunities - Co-Facilitator for Caring Friends Bereavement Group

Purpose:

Provide support and information to residents in their grief journey.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • To provide non-judgmental support with empathy and compassion
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Keep records of attendance
  • Contact current participants about upcoming meetings
  • Prepare materials for each facilitation session
  • Set-up and clean up for each session

Acts as a resource for questions about Stony Plain, Parkland County and area by providing resource materials and helping attendees find the answers they are looking for.

Education/Knowledge Preference (but not required):

  • Group facilitation experience and/or experience working with grief
  • Caregiving background (distress line, group work) is an asset
  • Diploma/Degree in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology or related Human service field is an asset
  • Knowledge of Outreach and Family support

Skills:

The individual best suited for this position has active listening skills, is empathetic, has effective communication skills, is organized, and has administrative abilities (including proficiency in email and a virtual environment).

Training Provided:

Training opportunities are offered to volunteers as it is available, and may include: Basic Facilitation Skills Workshop, CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention Skills Training, Senior Connect and other grief related trainings as available. 

 

Time Commitment Required:

Caring Friends Support Group meets the first Thursday of each month at Stony Plain Community and Social Development office (#107, 4613-52 Ave) at 7 pm.
