Animals and the Environment - Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta - Equine Therapy Volunteer
What are the Volunteer duties or responsibilities?
Volunteers in the CPAA Pony & Me program support children with disabilities during pony-based recreational and therapeutic activities by helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. Volunteers walk alongside participants during sessions, providing physical support as needed by side-saddling or holding the saddle, and offering encouragement to help participants feel confident and secure. They work closely with instructors and staff to ensure activities run smoothly, help monitor safety, and support the use of proper equipment.. No prior horse experience is required, as training is provided, but volunteers should enjoy working with children, be patient, reliable, and willing to learn.
Education/Knowledge Required
No previous experience required.
Benefits to the Volunteer
Volunteering with the CPAA Pony & Me program offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of children with disabilities while being part of a supportive and inclusive community. Volunteers gain hands-on experience working with children of varying abilities, develop skills in communication, teamwork, and adaptability, and build confidence in leadership and responsibility. The role also provides exposure to therapeutic and adaptive recreation settings, which is valuable for students pursuing careers in kinesiology, education, therapy, recreation, or healthcare. In addition, volunteers can complete volunteer or placement hours and experience the personal fulfillment that comes from helping others achieve meaningful moments of joy and success.
Time commitment required
Every Saturday April 4th from 11AM-12PM. Session ends June 13th.
