Town of Stony Plain Volunteer Opportunities - Financial Empowerment Champion Volunteer
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Promote financial literacy in the community
- Provide one-on-one financial literacy sessions with individuals in areas of income and taxes, budgeting, banking, saving, credit, credit reporting, debt and consumerism.
- Use Prosper Canada Financial Literacy Facilitator resources to empower individuals to improve their knowledge of finances.
- Refer individuals to appropriate community resources and financial tools such as Money Management Tool for Newcomers, RDSP Calculator, Benefit Wayfinder, Money Mentors, Prosper Canada
- Maintains confidentiality of all personal information
Education/Knowledge Preference (but not required):
- Basic knowledge of Income and taxes, Budgeting, Banking, Saving, Credit, Credit reporting, Debt and Consumerism
- Proven work experience as a Financial Literacy Educator or similar role
- Strong understanding of personal finance concepts
Skills:
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts in an understandable manner
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience working with diverse audiences
- Awareness of trauma-informed approach
- Ability to be non-judgmental and empathize with clients about their financial situations, while also providing motivation and moving clients toward positive action.
- Must be comfortable in following procedures and protocols
- Must have a solution focused approach in handling issues which may arise
- Must rely on factual basis when providing information to the community member
- Must have good working knowledge of computers and related technology
