Special Events - Town of Stony Plain - Halloween Haunted House 2026
What are the Volunteer duties or responsibilities?
Building the haunted house for our free family friendly Halloween event (Graveyard Groove) takes approx. 300 hrs. We build the structure with pipe and drape, tarps for roof, then decorate. Always looking for manpower to help build, secure, safety checks, walk through safety support people, then to decorate, and lastly to dress up and act as props and scare people for the event on Oct 24th, 11 am to 4 pm. If any of this sounds like you would like to help, please sign up.
When responding please provide the following: If you want;
- to be build support
-decorate (we have items, but always accept donations)
-work on decorating (we can theme on the go, or work ahead of interested)
-safety support person (walking seniors, people that are nervous, moms with strollers etc. through the haunted house during event)
-prop/scare people (costumes are not provided, but there is always space the work with a theme in the plan)
-pack up/tear down (this is can start after the event for a couple of hours, but typically on the next day start around 11 am)
-*Prop displays*- if your interested in building prop displays or creating for the haunted house, that can be done in September and October leading up to the week of Oct 19th.
Event schedule runs on the following days: Please indicate if you know what days (time frame AM -PM- Evening) work best for you. I try to work around schedules before sending out.
Oct 19th to Oct 23rd - Build and decorate.
Oct 22nd and 23rd - Final touches for total event, and safety inspect.
Oct 24th Graveyard Groove 11 am - 4 pm. Pre set/character load in will start 830 am to 930 am.
Oct 24th shut down/minor tear down starts at 4:15 pm to 630 pm
Oct 25th Tear down and pack up - 11 am (ish) to 6 pm (ish) - times can be flexible due to scheduling
Oct 26th Load tear down into storage
Benefits to the Volunteer
What will the volunteer gain from this position? We can track hours, sign off, snacks are provided, building and gaining community/friendships., have fun. Learning from the inside event building skills.
We live in an incredible community with such wonderful people. Connecting and seeing how much the community loves this event is priceless.
This is open to groups, youth, adults, seniors, business's and any community member.
Time commitment required
Time commitment is what you can provide. I like to try to schedule to accommodate. The most important thing is me knowing what time frame your available.
