The Battlefords - Meals on Wheels Associate

 

Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients assessed as needing support with nutrition.

 

Personal accomplishment, develop and enhance communication skills, learn new job skills & obtain a work routine, being involved & giving back to community.

 

Volunteer picks up meals at given time from the outlet and delivers to client in their home. 

 

Shifts vary, delivery over lunch time hours. 

 

Routes available in Battleford and North Battleford 

Battleford District Care Centre - Entertainment Provider

Provider volunteers provide mental, social, emotional, and physical stimulation to residents
Group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, school entertainment, old time dancing groups, hymn sing, story tellers.
 
 

Ongoing opportunity.

Frequency: casual - as determined with Recreation Staff

Days/Times: As determined with Recreation Staff (Monday - Sunday. Mornings, afternoons, evenings)

Battleford District Care Centre - Pet Visitation Associate

Animals have been found to benefit people socially, psychologically, and physiologically.  The goals of pet visitation programs are to provide opportunities for patients to reach and maintain their optimal level of physical and mental functioning; to maintain or re-establish interests, social contacts and dignity, to alleviate anxiety and redirect attention from their own condition and try to provide an outlet for emotion; and to provide structured, meaningful daily activity.

 All dogs are to be certified and temperament tested by a Certified Pet Dog Trainer or by St. John’s Ambulance. They will be placed in areas according to their certification level.  

 Vaccinations are to be up to date prior to first animal visit o Handlers must complete all required SaskHA Registered Volunteer processes


  • The physical and mental ability to do the work assigned
  •  Refined interpersonal skills
  •  The willingness to accept training and supervision
  •  A willingness to comply with SaskHA policies and procedures
  •  Volunteers are to provide pet visitation only and not utilize therapy dogs as “tools” for therapy.
  •  Volunteers must follow SaskHA hand hygiene protocols and infection control procedures
  •  Volunteers must maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  •  Volunteers must follow SaskHA policies and procedures  

Shifts are available Monday - Friday  Morning, afternoon and evenings dependant upon volunteer's availability.   This is an on-going casual position. 

Battleford District Care Centre - Recreation Associate

The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Activities include, but are not limited to:  Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, First Nation Elder Visits, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings.

Battleford District Care Centre - Youth Ambassador

The youth volunteer would meet recreation staff and resident in the
agreed upon location and be assigned a resident, they would have
conversations with resident, paint finger nails, assist with painting a
picture, help with the iPad, play card games, puzzles, read a story,
assist with coffee. The volunteer would assist with pushing a wheelchair
and taking a resident for a walk down the hallways. Give support to
residents and staff.

Battlefords Union Hospital - Apple a Day Program Associate

Volunteers will be asked to put together and then deliver produce bags to clients that have been identified as being at risk for malnutrition and food insecurity. The volunteers will be supporting the quality of life of these individuals by providing food that will support better health.

Shifts are Tuesdays from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm   

Battlefords Union Hospital - Apple a Day Program Provider

The volunteer will assist in providing healthy snacks to clients struggling with food insecurity. The volunteer (supervised) will assist with sorting, packing and handling food items to the clients. They will keep track of food coming in and going out.

Program runs Tuesdays 3:30 - 7:30 pm   

 

Battlefords Union Hospital - Palliative Care Associate

Palliative Volunteers will provide social interaction and offer comfort supplies to patients and families receiving care in the hospital.

Scott Parker Palliative Care Coordinator, will will facilitate a 8 hour Palliative Care course for the volunteers.

Shift Times  Monday - Friday  1:00 pm - 2:00 pm 

Battlefords Union Hospital - Spiritual Services Associate

Volunteers will lead church services. 

Volunteers must be approved by their faith community (such as church or spiritual organization).  Volunteers will provide a letter of support from their church to indicate that volunteers are appropriate to lead services and represent the faith community.

Dates/ times to be determined with volunteers.

North Battleford Field House - Community Ambassador

Volunteer will help set up and take down. An extra set of eyes and ears in the gymnasium. Take attendance of the participants.

Shifts are available  1-3 times a week, mornings and afternoons. 

River Heights Lodge - Entertainment Provider

Provider volunteers provide mental, social, emotional, and physical stimulation to residents
Group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, school entertainment, old time dancing groups, hymn sing, story tellers.
 
This is an ongoing opportunity.
Commitment: Monthly
Days/Times may include: Monday to Saturday. Mornings, afternoons, evenings.

This is a casual position : shifts available Monday to Friday,  mornings, afternoons and evenings. 

River Heights Lodge - Youth Ambassador

Recreation Ambassadors are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

The youth volunteer would meet with the Rec staff for direction. They would have conversations with the residents, paint finger nails, assist with art programs, help with iPad and facetime. They could play card games, read a story, assist with coffee.

This is an on-going casual program.  Mornings, afternoons and evenings, Monday - Friday 

Saskatchewan Hospital - Entertainment provider

Provider volunteers provide mental, social, emotional, and physical stimulation to residents.  Providers could include group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, and/or school entertainment.   
 
Shifts are available Monday - Friday, in mornings and afternoons. 

Saskatchewan Hospital - Recreation Associate

Saskatchewan Hospital - Spiritual Care Associate

Providing same faith or similar faith services helps the patients to have a positive relationship with God and experience a caring community.

  • Leading Chapel services
  • Praying with the patients
  • Performing last rites
  • Leading bible studies

Shifts available include:

  • Saturday  10:30 - 11:00 am - West Side
  • Sunday  2:30 -3:00  West Side
  • First Friday of the month  10:00 -1200 East Side   

Saskatchewan Hospital - Youth Ambassador

Youth Volunteer Ambassadors : 

1:1 visit, play cards, do puzzles and play word games. Help with bingo. Help serve coffee and snacks. Assist with sanitizing entertainment equipment. Take ambulatory and w/c patients for walks. Assist and partake in group exercise class. Perform musical entertainment. Seasonal decorating and complete the volunteer work record at the end of each shift.

Shift times are sporadic dependent upon activities.
