Horticulture/Gardening - Grow and Give - ~ I am interested in volunteering with Grow and Give!

Are you interested in volunteering to end food security in Story County? Fantastic! We'd love to have you!

  1. Take the Produce Donation Program and Food Safety Training on Better Impact.
  2. Go to the Opportunities List in Better Impact and scroll down to Horticulture/Gardening - Produce Donation Program. 
  3. Decide which part of Grow and Give you'd like to contribute to and sign up.
  4. If you want more information before beginning the training process, click + Sign Up below, and the Manager of Volunteer Engagement will contact you to discuss this opportunity.

Activity Instructions

Reiman Gardens' produce donation program Grow and Give is active from May through mid-October each year and provides many tons of fresh, donated product to local food pantries. 

 

Volunteers can select different ways to contribute:

  • help us garden in our Grow and Give Garden or other garden spaces
  • pick up donations from the Ames Main Street Farmer's Market
  • collect, weigh, sort, and distribute donated produce to area food pantries

Training and Requirements

  • Onsite Volunteer 
  • Produce Donation Program & Food Safety Training
  • Personal vehicles may be used for produce collection and distribution. All volunteers wishing to use a University vehicle must successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record check through the University’s Office of Risk Management.
  • Volunteers should be able to lift 25+ pounds

Activity Locations

Community donations are collected and sorted in the S1 Parking Lot.

Reiman Gardens donations are harvested from the Grow and Give garden, Trial Gardens, and Edible Gardens.

Farmer's Market donations are collected at the Ames Main Street Farmer's Market.
