Volunteering with Reiman Gardens

Only volunteers who have completed fire and extinguisher safety training qualify to sign up for these shifts. 

Activity Description & Instructions

These volunteers will monitor the s'mores station during Winter Wonderscape. Volunteers will be responsible for:

• welcoming guests to the s'mores station
• appropriately responding to overzealous fires or extinguishing fires as needed
• helping guests maintain a safe distance from fires and ask guests to refrain from placing things in the grills
• alerting staff regarding propane going out and needing to be replaced

Volunteers should not:

• handle propane (please leave this job to staff!)

What to do when you arrive

1. Enter though our main lobby (this might be quite busy and congested) or the East Gate (tell volunteers at the Kiosk that you are a volunteer heading in for your shift). The East Gate will only be available to enter after 5 p.m.
2. Sign in via Better Impact. Download the app and use that to sign in/out so you can bypass the front desk kiosk. 
3. Go directly to the S'mores Corner (located in the patio behind Hunziker).
4. Welcome guests as they enter. Point them in direction of Potting Shed to buy supplies.
5. Remind guests:
   1. to stand far enough away from grills that they do not get burned. 
   2. to not put anything on or in the grills.
   3. that you can help assist if they need an extra hand!
6. Use Walkie Talkie to alert staff to dying propane so they can be replaced. 
7. Use the fire extinguisher or water to put out fires if needed.

Training, Requirements, and considerations

• Volunteers must pass the fire safety training.
• Volunteers will be stationed outdoors during late autumn/early winter evenings.
• Volunteers will be on their feet for most of their shift.

When you arrive...

1. Check in via Better Impact.
2. Go to the S'mores Station, located in the courtyard south of Hunziker House.
3. Put on a light belt so guests know you are a volunteer.
