Activity Instructions

Important: Entomology Lab Assistants must be trained to work in the butterfly wing. If you are scheduled for a shift as an Entomology Lab Assistant, but there aren't enough docents signed up to support the wing, you may be moved to work in the wing instead. Assistants may only be in the lab when staff are present. 

Entomology Lab Assistants are scheduled in the lab to take care of our many invertebrate critters. Lab Assistants may also make oak mulch which is used in our animal enclosures. 

Location

Lab assistants work in the Entomology Lab. When you arrive, check in at the front desk and let the front desk staff know you are there to work in the lab. They will call staff to let you into the lab.

Role Requirements

• Must complete annual Butterfly Wing Docent Training.
• Must complete and pass one shadow shift in the Butterfly Wing.
• Must be willing to switch to volunteer in the Butterfly Wing if staffing is needed there.
• Must wear all appropriate PPE as provided by Entomology Department staff. 
• Must wear closed-toed/closed-heel shoes.
• Must be willing to touch and work with live invertebrates under the supervision of Entomology staff.
