Events - Spirits in the Gardens - Pumpkin & Spirits - Stagehands, path lighting, pumpkin placing
Activity Description
What is a stagehand? Stagehands are essential behind-the-scenes workers in live entertainment. They are responsible for a wide range of tasks, from setting up and dismantling sets, props, and equipment to assisting with lighting, sound, and special effects. As stagehands for Spirits, you'll help us with set-up, path lighting, hay bale installation, placing pumpkins, clean-up, supporting events staff, and tear-down. Why help as a stage hands? Path preparation ensures that the routes through Spirits in the Gardens are safe, easy to navigate, and look amazing for our visitors. It takes many hands to make this work light.
- Path Lighting: In late September, volunteers will work in a group to install path lighting and hay bales throughout the gardens. No ladder safety training required!
- Hay bale install*: On Wednesday, October 7, help staff put hay bales into place throughout the gardens in preparation for pumpkins to be placed on October 9.
- Pumpkin Placers*: Work alongside staff on Friday, October 9 to put pumpkins into their spots throughout the gardens. We'll also need a few people to work together on October 11 and 12 to put out about 50 fresh pumpkins, replacing pumpkins that have passed their prime. This job requires some heavy lifting! You'll be picking up and putting down pumpkins for about an hour.
- Pumpkin Prep Support: During our busiest evening shifts of pumpkin prep, support our staff with assisting our pumpkin HQ, moving pumpkins, cleaning up after groups leave, and washing tools.
- Clean-up: On the Wednesday after Spirits in the Gardens, volunteers will help us scrub every memory (and the guts) of pumpkins away from our indoor horticulture racks (and possibly some tables and chairs). There is bleach involved, so dress accordingly. Volunteers will also scour the Gardens for any other hints of Spirits in the Gardens that still need to be put away.
*These tasks require stamina and strength. All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.
