2. Lead volunteering roles - 🌻 Volunteer Wellbeing Coordinator

The wonderful Angela has taken on a new job so we are looking for someone to step into this role. This would be the perfect role for someone who loves working with people and has experience in, or wants to gain experience in, the voluntary or wellbeing sector.

What is the time commitment for this role?

Flexible, but we expect this role to need about one day's commitment each week. This doesn't need to be worked as a full day, and a number of aspects can be done from home if you wish.

Tasks and activities you can expect to do in this role:

  • Supporting our existing Wellbeing Cafe - attending at least once a month to support participants to plan their schedule of activities and explore what resources and support they need;

  • Leading occasional wellbeing activities with the Wellbeing Cafe group;

  • Producing an occasional short section for our volunteer newsletter to share a wellbeing topic or resource;

  • Being the contact point for volunteers wanting to share ideas/ concerns around wellbeing;

  • Sending birthday cards to volunteers;

  • Helping to monitor and evaluate volunteers’ experiences.

  • You'll also have the option to join the Railway Gardens Circle, our project advisory group, which meets every six weeks, to ensure Wellbeing is considered in decision making.

The difference you’ll make in this role…

  • Helping to embed wellbeing across our activities and ways of working at Railway Gardens

  • Supporting participants and volunteers to develop skills for self care and resilience

  • Ensuring volunteers feel valued and supported in their roles

  • Supporting the Green Squirrel team to better understand the volunteer team and their needs

  • Improving volunteer recruitment and retention

The right person for this role will be…

  • Confident in working with individuals and groups, and able to have conversations in an open and positive way;

  • Caring, and a good listener;

  • Experienced in, or interest in working in, the area of organisational wellbeing

  • Well organised and happy working independently;

  • Comfortable with simple digital tools, and happy to learn how to use our volunteer management system;

  • Willing to follow Green Squirrel policies and procedures including around equality and diversity, safeguarding, and data protection;

  • Experience in working with disadvantaged, diverse or marginalised communities would also be beneficial but isn’t essential.

How we will support you in this role…

  • We will provide a full volunteer induction and training in relevant skills, including using our volunteer portal. We can also discuss any other training you feel would be helpful;

  • A regular catch up with a member of the Green Squirrel team for planning and discussing ideas or issues;

  • Time to work alongside the Wellbeing Cafe lead to get to know the group and how they work together;

  • Ensuring you have the resources and materials you need to carry out your role.

  • Providing a reference after 2 months in the role to support your career development if relevant.

We'll get in touch once you've signed up for this role to chat about next steps. We'd ideally like the person in this role to have their training and start in the role, with support, in the new year.
