Pets' Corner Volunteer Keeper

Pets' Corner Volunteer Keepers work in our much-loved miniature zoo. They look after the animals on site, engage with members of the public, and help with general site maintenance and repair.

What’s involved?

Pets’ Corner was set up in the 1960s in Jesmond Dene to enable city kids to experience farm life and to learn about animal care. Since then, it has provided a welcoming, fun and educational visit for thousands of people each year. It hosts an assortment of residents including visiting pigs and sheep from our partner farms, and our own goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, ducks, poultry and fowl.

As a Pets’ Corner Volunteer Keeper you can:

Help to ensure our animals and birds are well cared for and happy

Volunteer Keepers carry out all of the tasks needed for animal care, including feeding, mucking out, providing shelter, and helping to keep the animals entertained and happy by providing them with toys.

Act as the public face of Pets’ Corner

We want everyone to enjoy our parks, and part of this role is to be a friendly face for the general public, answering questions that they might have.

Who would this role suit?

We are looking for people who are:

Happy to work hard as part of a team.

Keen to learn new skills.

Able to work outdoors throughout the year.

Interested in animals and their care.
