MPRG - Exhibition Invigilator

Role Purpose:

The Volunteer Support position at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (MPRG) is integral to enhancing visitor experiences, safeguarding artworks, and supporting the gallery's mission of promoting art and cultural enrichment. Volunteers may contribute across various streams, including exhibition invigilating, education program assistance, archives, specialised garden assistance and event support. Each role offers training and opportunities for skill development while fostering meaningful connections within the community and culture. Volunteers are essential in ensuring the safety, accessibility, and overall vibrancy of the gallery's programs, exhibitions and works.

Essential Skills:

  • A passion for art and culture, with a willingness to discuss, support and engage.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively and with staff at the gallery.
  • Listen & act on instructions of the day.
  • Have a warm and friendly personality.
  • Have good interpersonal skills with people from all backgrounds.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Prioritising the safety of works of art on display.
  • Demonstrate the Shire Values of Integrity, Openness, Respect & Excellence in their work with MPRG & the Shire.

Key Duties:

  • Familiarise yourself with works of art, their locations, and details in each exhibition.
  • Monitor visitor activity to safeguard artworks and follow gallery rules.
  • Position strategically to oversee high-risk areas and blind spots.
  • Report incidents, damages, or suspicious behaviour to staff.
  • Shift times for Exhibition invigilating are Weekdays 11am to 1pm and 1pm to 3pm.

Requirements: 

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Complete a Police Check - cost covered by Council
  • Obtain a Working with Children's Check and assign Council - free for volunteers
  • Complete Online Training as requested by the Shire
  • Shire Induction
