Playroom Volunteer
Playroom Volunteer Position Description
To provide group creative play activities for hospitalized children. To assist Child Life in providing appropriate play experiences for patients from infants through school age.
· Personal cleanliness and grooming are essential · Interest and enthusiasm in working with children · Good communication skills · Maturity, reliability and punctuality · Able to work in a group and engage children in play · Acceptance of direction and supervision · Must be flexible and capable of taking appropriate initiative · Capable of lifting small children and bending numerous times · Be committed to the philosophy of the program, its objectives, and goals
· Be able to problem solve, and be open to new ideas · Be able to keep confidentiality · Be open towards helping others in the spirit of volunteerism · Have a desire to have fun and meet new people · Priority given to those individuals that have personal knowledge and experience
· Facilitate positive play experiences by providing appropriate play materials to patients with assistance from therapist
· Interact with patients through play
· Encourage group play among patients, as appropriate, with direction from CLS
· Adapt toys/games/crafts when inappropriate for patients’ developmental level and abilities, with assistance from CLS
The Playroom Program runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 12:00pm.
