Assigned Patient Volunteer
The Assigned Patient Volunteer Program is a unique volunteering experience in which a volunteer is paired with a patient who is expected to have a long-term admission. As an "Assigned Patient Volunteer", the volunteer will become a "Special Friend" to the child and provide both stimulation and play activities.

Assigned Patient Volunteers may do any of the following, depending on specific program needs: • To develop a rapport and to interact with the patient through play: - being aware of developmental stages and appropriate interaction and play activities; - using all senses during play (as appropriate; auditory, visual, tactile); - using play to assist the child in exploring his/her environment. • To encourage play and leisure activities with patients up to 18 years of age
