Who: High school girls and gender-expansive youth (15+)
What: Build leadership by assisting teachers with STEM lessons in an afterschool classroom of 15-20 elementary school girls.
Where: Elementary schools in Richmond, Oakland, & Berkeley area
When: 1 hour, 1 weekday afternoon for school year or session
Commitment: 27- week school year or 7-10 weeks curriculum session.
Notes:
- Choose between receiving a stipend or volunteer hours
- Additional clearance requirements such as proof of negative TB test, fingerprinting, and reference letter may be required for certain school sites.
Family STEM Events Volunteer
Who: Individuals 14+ (12-14 with adult)
What: Lead a STEAM project station with a teacher at SAfG’s Family STEAM Events held throughout the year, engaging children and their families in hands-on projects. Training on the activity provided.
Where: Elementary school and partner sites around the East Bay.
When: 2-6 hour shifts select weekday evenings and Saturdays
Commitment: 1 shift
Seasonal Library Volunteer
Who: Individuals 15+
What: Engage students and families in a STEM project under the supervision of a teacher at a public library.
Where: Library sites around the East Bay.
When: 2 hour shifts select weekday afternoons and Saturdays
Commitment: 1 shift
Teen Summer Camp Volunteer
Who: Teens 15-17 years old (18+ apply for adult position)
What: Engage elementary age students in a rotation of 1 hour STEM projects under the supervision of a teacher.
Where: school or community sites in Richmond, Oakland or Emeryville
When: Varies. 2-8 hour shifts weekdays.
Commitment: Varies - either week by week or single week day for 4-8 weeks.
