The Palliative Care Associate volunteer 

  Sit with palliative resident. Stay with palliative resident to give caregiver a break. Seek resources as requested by the resident or family. Collaborate with nursing staff. Accept direction and feedback from Staff Liaison and Volunteer Coordinator 

Session with Palliative Care Coordinator to train on palliative care approach, role of volunteer, boundaries, communication skills, understanding the dying process and cultural and spiritual considerations.  

Volunteers must complete  Online Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Volunteer Training Modules 1-9. 

Volunteer must be impartial to differing lifestyles and beliefs. Refrain from using personal religious/beliefs when interacting with residents and family. Any religious requests initiated through the resident and or family will be directed to the nursing staff.
