Volunteer Opportunities

NE 8 - Immunization Associate

The volunteer role will provide a positive, safe and smooth flowing experience while public attend flu clinics. Volunteers will greet public coming to immunization clinics and direct them to waiting areas and to the next available immunizer.

Clinics will be held in the Community Halls in :  Tisdale, Arborfield, Porcupine Plain, Weekes, Mistatim, Hudson Bay, Archerwill, Bjorkdale and schools in the areas. 

 

Days and times to be determined. 

 

Hudson Bay - Meals on Wheels Associate

 

Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients assessed as needing support with nutrition.

 

Personal accomplishment, develop and enhance communication skills, learn new job skills & obtain a work routine, being involved & giving back to community.

 

Volunteer picks up meals at given time from the outlet and delivers to client in their home. 

 

Shifts vary, delivery over lunch time hours. 

Hudson Bay Health Care Facility - Auxiliary Associate

Auxiliary Volunteer - Provide assists with activities & events. This may include bingo, bowling, etc. assisting with special on site events like teas, birthday parties, special meals. They also do fundraising in the community for purchases of equipment for the residents.

Programs vary but are ongoing  

Monday - Sunday, mornings afternoons and evenings 

Hudson Bay Health Care Facility - Entertainment/Church Group Provider

Entertainment & Church Groups Church Group & Choirs, Bands, Piano Player, Violin Players, Guitar Players, School Plays, Piano Recitals, School Concert\Parades, Talent Shows & Dance Recitals\Groups.

Times vary based on groups.

Available  Monday to Sunday mornings, afternoons and evenings.  

Hudson Bay Health Care Facility - Recreation Associate

The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Activities include, but are not limited to:  Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings.

Shifts Vary depending on activity :  Mornings and afternoons, Monday - Friday 

Hudson Bay Health Care Facility - Youth Recreation Ambassador

The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Activities include, but are not limited to:  Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings.

Shifts are available :  Monday - Sunday, mornings afternoons and evenings. 

Newmarket Place - Youth Volunteer Ambassador

Youth Volunteer - volunteers will assist recreation staff with programs. From example, bingo, bowling, reading, games, parties, decorating, etc.

This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity. 

Shifts available Monday to Sunday, mornings afternoons and evenings. 

Newmarket Place (Tisdale) - Horticulture Volunteer Ambassador

Horticultural Volunteer will help to beautify outdoor areas for everyone to enjoy.

Volunteer will assist with caring for plants, flowers and vegetables in the gardens. (Watering, weeding, pruning, planting etc.)

This is a seasonal opportunity.

Specific time will vary. (Monday through Sunday - mornings, afternoons, evenings)

Newmarket Place - Auxiliary Ambassador

The Auxiliary Ambassador will assist with activities and events. This may include
bingo, tea\coffee parties, both financial & volunteer time. Donated end
of life cart for family members & stock cart. Auxiliary give monetary
amounts of money to buy needed equipment for the residents & staff
 
Shifts are variable:  Monday - Sunday mornings, afternoons and evenings. 

Newmarket Place - Entertainment Provider

Provider volunteers provide mental, social, emotional, and physical stimulation to residents
Group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, school entertainment, old time dancing groups, hymn sing, story tellers.
 
 
Shifts vary based on group   Monday - Sunday:  mornings, afternoons and evening

Birthday parties, volunteer group outings, curling and setting hair, assisting with fundraising efforts.

Shifts are variable:  Monday to Sunday mornings, afternoons and evenings 

Red Deer Nursing Home - Auxiliary Ambassador

Auxiliary will assist recreation staff with parties, teas & coffee.
Fundraising. Auxiliary donated an end of life cart for family & supplies
the cart. Auxiliary give monetary amounts of money to buy needed
equipment for the facility for the residents.
 
Shifts are available Monday to Friday in the afternoons. 

Red Deer Nursing Home - Youth Volunteer Ambassador

Youth Volunteer - Youth will assist in a variety of programs and assist with odd tasks to support the activity department. Like decorating the facility for holidays, assisting in outside clean up, games, reading etc.

Red Deer Nursing Home 330 Oak Street - Porcupine Plain

This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity  

Shifts available Monday - Sunday  Mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Tisdale - MOW Associate

Shift Times available :   Meals are delivered Monday to Friday, excluding Statutory holidays. Meals are picked up by the volunteers no earlier than 11:30 am.  

Tisdale - Special Events and Projects Ambassador

Special Events and Projects Volunteer work in an office environment to support local projects and events that temporarily increase workload due to seasonal activities. The actual requirements could vary in nature. Ambassadors could have access to confidential information that is pertinent to the task they are assigned. A staff member would supervise the volunteer on-site in a space with high visibility.

Tasks & Responsibilities Assist with basic office duties such as photocopying, folding letters, data entry, mass mail outs, bulk receipts, filing for special Volunteer Services events and projects. The projects could be related to Volunteer Appreciation, early startup of programs, or other such activities

 

Tisdale Hospital - 1-1 Friendly Visitor Associate

Healthcare setting, while highlighting the importance of volunteerism in the community. This would help keep patients oriented, support families & patients experience emotionally difficult times by providing therapeutic relationship & socialization.

Volunteers will benefit patients by promoting relationships and providing support to our health care workers and inpatients. This will help keep patients oriented, support families and patients experience in emotionally difficult time by providing therapeutic relationship and socialization.  Volunteers will engage in socializing, visiting/ playing games/ walks. 

Volunteer must be impartial to differing life\styles and beliefs. Refrain from using personal religious/beliefs when interacting with patient, resident and family. Any religious requests initiated through the patient, resident and or family will be directed to the nursing staff.

Shifts available Monday - Sunday mornings, afternoons and evenings 

Tisdale Hospital - Tisdale Health Care Auxiliary Ambassador

Auxiliary members contribute by organizing fundraisers, volunteering their time by purchasing gifts for special occasions and displaying items in the display case throughout the year. They provide supplementary and additional help and support as needed. The Auxiliary gives monetary amounts of money to purchase needed equipment for the facility for the benefit of the patients and staff. 

Auxiliary members will be required to attend a monthly meeting on the premises. 

This is an ongoing opportunity.

Tisdale Hospital - Youth Volunteer Ambassador

This position gives high school students the opportunity to volunteer their time and efforts and experience and learn about acute care and the careers available. To assist the acute care staff with general tasks deemed appropriate for youth volunteers. This will benefit the patients by promoting relationships and providing support to the healthcare workers and inpatients.

DUTIES OF YOUTH VOLUNTEER

Youth Volunteer should arrive on time and report to the Nurse-in-Charge when coming to the Unit. The Nurses may assign Volunteers additional duties and relay to them any pertinent information. Volunteers do not assume responsibilities for patient care. The duties of the Youth Volunteer include: • Engaging patients in activities, such as: visiting, reading, writing letters, playing cards, setting puzzles. • Providing patients with videos, magazines, and books. • Prepare the patients for supper by tidying their over bed tables, and providing shirt savers. • Circulating to patient rooms after trays have been delivered to assist as required by the patient and to note patient meal preferences which will be reported to the nursing staff. • Replacing disposable glove boxes, as needed. • Roll isolation gowns. • Washing flashlights and stethoscopes by the nursing desk. • Collecting and cleaning wheel chairs & Staxi chairs; attaching the matching foot rests in ER/OPD , Main entrance and Inpatient Unites • Picking up flowers from the front desk and delivering them to the patients. • Taking ambulatory patients for walks, if allowed. • Taking patients in wheelchairs for walks, if allowed. • Reporting any injuries or unusual occurrences to the Nurse-in-Charge. • Making charts, cutting “med additive” stickers. • Seasonal decorating as assigned • Updating pamphlets & posters in the facility • Completing the Volunteer Work Record at end of shift. Youth Volunteers are NOT allowed to: • Lift Patients at any time. • Access Patients’ Charts. • Answer the phone. • Clean Patient Rooms following discharge.

Tisdale Hospital - Mental Health Day Program Associate

Associate volunteers are relational in nature and provide added care for clients through meaningful engagement and service. This role is more independent where the volunteers have a central point of contact but may conduct their volunteer service independently. Interactions occur in areas with limited visibility or infrequent supervision by a paid employee

Volunteers will assist with activities such as: bingo, puzzles, crafts, bean-bag toss, outings, etc. Assist in preparing for special events such as bowling and a yearly Christmas party. Volunteer would assist with the setup, participation, and daily cleanup

 

Shifts available Monday  1:00pm-4:00pm  &  Thursday  1:00pm-3:00pm  

Red Deer Nursing Home - Horticulture Ambassador

The Horticulture Associate will be able to bring joy to residents. They will share talents in garden, visit with elders of the community and improve the resident's outdoor experience

They assist residents in caring for the outdoor space we have during our Spring/summer/ fall season.

Duties may include: Assisting with caring for plants, flowers and vegetables in the gardens. Watering, weeding, pruning, planting etc.
