Emergency Department Volunteers offer a guiding service or comfort eg, a warm blanket, a chat and distraction measures to patients and carers, whilst in the waiting area or within the Emergency Department.

This role involves assisting both paediatric and adult patients and would suit a mature minded person with the ability to listen and empathise. Must be confident to speak with and interact with people of diverse backgrounds and to also talk to children and to offer distraction items . The ability to speak multiple languages would be an advantage but is not essential.

The skills required are being able to approach and introduce yourself to patients and/or families to offer assistance, the ability to read the room and demonstrate care and compassion for others. 

Shifts: Morning & Afternoon (you must be available to volunteer during business hours  from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm– Monday to Friday)
