Environmental Steward

3 volunteers planting trees in the Kelmscott Manor car park

The Environmental Steward will support the Grounds and Maintenance team with the implementation of the Garden Management Plan and year-round care of the wider Kelmscott Landscape. Environmental Stewards will help us to better understand the ecology of Kelmscott’s landscape through monitoring and recording changes throughout the year. They will also help facilitate garden activities for visitors, support the general upkeep of the Manor’s gardens and champion our green spaces.

Garden activities are usually project based and come in the form of micro-volunteering opportunities rather than regular slots.

As a part of the Activities team, you will:

  • Warmly welcome visitors, ensuring an inclusive space for all
  • Conduct biodiversity audits
  • Plant Trees and hedges
  • Plant and weed the garden areas
  • Assist with composting tasks
  • Plant and maintain the meadow field
  • Gather and harvest seeds and fruit
  • Grow plants from seeds for use in the gardens
  • Facilitate garden activities for visitors such as Foraging School and willow weaving workshops, using materials grown onsite
  • Facilitate Drop-in activities for visitors relating to the environment such as making bee/bug hotels, moth trapping and den building
  • Share your knowledge and enthusiasm for Kelmscott Manor, it’s people and history
  • Follow the relevant risk assessments
  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times
