General Interests

Good Food Center

Our Good Food Centre (food bank) provides emergency access to food in a community-based setting while working to improve skills related to healthy eating.  In every food hamper we aim to include items from all food groups (vegetables, fruit, whole grains and protein).  Each food hamper contains 3 to 4 days supply of food for every person in a household.

What We Do

  • Welcome and greet clients at the Good Food Centre
  • Distribute food hampers in a respectful and friendly environment

Willow's Place/Emma's Place

Willow's Place is a resource hub that provides safe, low-barrier, female identified space for women to receive compassionate care in a way that creates opportunities to build on their strengths.  This hub is unique and vital to our community, filling a housing gap for marginalized women experiencing homelessness, precarious housing and social isolation.

What We Do

  • Women experiencing homelessness or precarious housing have access to laundry and shower facilities, and find a safe place to rest and eat a healthy, hot meal.  Staff provide referrals to other community resources such as addiction services, housing, mental health services and more.  We aim to meet the basic needs of participants at any point along the spectrum of homelessness.

Facility Services

Volunteering in the facility services department of MSH is a hands-on way to support vulnerable individuals and our employees by helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. This role is essential to the shelter’s daily operations. Your responsibilities may include assisting with repairs and maintenance as needed, landscaping work, and cleaning.

Men's Emergency Shelter

The Men's Shelter provides a warm, welcoming place to spend the night which is safe from the elements and dangers on the street.  The shelter has 58 beds and will not turn anyone away during a cold weather alert.  Our clients receive support with finding housing, employment, addictions and community referrals.

Inasmuch House

Inasmuch House is a 24 hour shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence.  We provide women who have experienced violence and abuse a safe place to stay while they rebuild their lives and return to the community.  Our goal isn't just to house women but to help them regain the confidence and strength to live a healthy and independent life again.

What We Do

  • We provide many services for the women and children at Inasmuch House such as safe shelter, early intervention for children, legal advocacy, transitional support and ongoing safety planning.

Housing Up!

The Housing Up! Program supports individuals experiencing episodic and chronic homelessness to improve their housing status by obtaining safe, affordable, and stable housing within the Hamilton community. Once housed, Case Managers maintain ongoing contact to support them with their transition to independent living and to achieve their wellness goals. Volunteer roles include special opportunities such as assembling IKEA furniture for clients and sorting and organizing inventory.

Youth 196 Program

The 196 is an afterschool program for youth in grades 6-8.  Our primary goal is to provide the youth with opportunities to set goals for post-secondary schooling.  This is done through activities that encourage the growth of confidence, leadership and academics, as well as a space for creativity and community.
