African American Film Series

Communities First, Inc. is hosting Flint's first African American Film Series at Flint Institute of Arts as part of our Culture Shock program!  This exciting series exposes the community to independent films that are thought provoking and excellent.

Creative Team

The Creative Team helps with public relations, social media outreach, flyer distribution and creative elements for some of our programs.  These Team Members may possess special skills like photography, writing, graphic design or they may know a lot of people who they can invite to our events.

Culture Shock

Culture Shock exposes families in to arts and culture in unique and unusual ways. By altering and enhancing perceptions of arts and culture individuals and families can expand their horizons, broaden their tastes and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Once a connection to culture has been made, the effects can be lifelong, bringing satisfaction and a sense of community. Culture Shock promises to offer engaging, exciting and creative events throughout the year for families to take part in arts and culture activities.

Green Life

The goal of Green Life is to educate Flint residents and businesses about environmental concerns that affect them and to empower them to make choices that will improve life for all residents. Topics for Green Life events include: recycling, energy efficiency, pollution reduction, water conservation,sustainability and environmentally friendly cleaning products.

As a Green Life Team Member you might:

  • Assist CFI staff and other team members at community forums on green education.
  • Set-up and tear-down/clean up materials and equipment as needed.
  • Interact with public to answer questions, engage interest and promote learning.

The mission of Communities First, Inc. is to build healthy, vibrant communities through economic development, affordable housing and innovative programming.

Communities First, Inc. (CFI) is a Flint based nonprofit Community Development Corporation which was founded in 2010. The priorities of CFI are affordable housing, economic development, green programs, and quality of life programs. CFI is committed to building sustainable, equitable communities in distressed areas.
