Assist participants in getting into the water and on surfing boards. Help to stabilize the board and ensure the participant does not fall off the board. Be ready to catch the riders/boards as they ride the waves in and return the surfer to the Mid-Water volunteer (assist in turning the board and surfer back out for additional waves). Be watchful of those in the water for any potential safety concerns and communicate with those on shore in case of an emergency or need for additional support. Assist in getting the participant out of the water and into a beach wheelchair (if needed). All volunteers will receive training from event organizers. Volunteers should be comfortable in the water (ocean) and wear clothing that can get wet. Ability to surf is not a requirement but is appreciated. Volunteers should identify themselves at the gate to avoid parking fees. Event jerseys will be worn while in the water and returned when done.
