Current Volunteer Opportunities

Pantry Assistants (Client Facing)

Pantry Assistants (Client Facing) play a vital role in creating a positive and supportive experience for clients accessing our food pantry, including guiding them through how our pantry works. They help ensure each interaction is welcoming, respectful, and centred on dignity.

In this role, volunteers assist clients as they select items and move through the pantry, explain how the service works, and support clients through checkout in a calm and clear way.

Pantry Assistants help keep the checkout area organised and flowing smoothly, working closely with other volunteers and staff to ensure clients feel supported rather than rushed.

Volunteers in this role are friendly, patient, and comfortable engaging with people from diverse backgrounds. They understand the importance of confidentiality, respectful communication, and creating a checkout experience that feels welcoming, fair, and empowering.

Pantry Assistants (Back of House)

Pantry Assistants (Back of House) play a vital role in keeping the food pantry running smoothly and safely. Working behind the scenes, they support the delivery, organisation, and presentation of food to ensure the pantry is well‑stocked, clean, and ready for clients.

In this role, volunteers help unload food deliveries from trucks, move and store stock safely, stack shelves, and sort donated food items. They assist with checking dates and quality, rotating stock, and organising items so they are easy for front‑of‑house volunteers and clients to access.

Back‑of‑house Pantry Assistants also help maintain a clean, safe, and orderly pantry space, including general cleaning tasks and assisting with setup and pack‑down as needed.

Volunteers in this role are reliable, practical, and happy to work as part of a team. They don’t need to be client‑facing but play an essential role in supporting the dignity, efficiency, and success of the pantry service as a whole.

Running workshops and sharing skills

Workshop Volunteers are passionate community members who enjoy sharing their skills, knowledge, and experience with others. They plan and deliver engaging workshops that support learning, creativity, and connection within the community.

These volunteers are confident facilitators who enjoy guiding groups, explaining concepts clearly, and encouraging participation. They come prepared, are well‑organised, and are happy to adapt their approach to suit different learning styles and abilities.

With enthusiasm, a can‑do attitude, and an openness to working with diverse participants, Workshop Volunteers play an important role in building skills, confidence, and community connection.
