CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Onsite at Lantos Center for Compassion (1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA)

Onsite at Pick of the Litter Thrift Store (1127 Chula Vista Ave, Burlingame, CA)

Pick of the Litter - Volunteers help ring sales, restock shelves, assist customers and accept incoming donations. They work with staff and other volunteers to keep the store organized, and up to date. This role is available for volunteers 16+.

Time commitment: At least two hours a week for a minimum of one year.  Open Availability - Monday through Friday (One weekly 3 hour shift)
Training Required: 
Hands on with mentor

Start Date: ASAP

 

Offsite Volunteering

Outreach Volunteer - Represent PHS/SPCA at community-wide events, and provide the public with information about our programs, services and volunteer opportunities. This role is available to volunteers 18+

Available Shifts: Minimum commitment of 6 events per year. Days/Hours vary (e.g. shifts can range from 1 to 3 hrs)
Training required: Online training, Shadow at event
Location: Varies 

Pet Assisted Therapy Volunteer – Want to volunteer with your pet? Pet Assisted Therapy Volunteer – Want to volunteer with your pet?  Pet Assisted Therapy teams are local residents who work in pairs with their trained pets (i.e, dogs, cats, rabbits, or guinea pigs) to provide animal-assisted interactions in a variety of settings including healthcare facilities, schools, libraries, drug rehabilitation centers, and correctional facilities. It is the most social, engaging animals and their companions that become Pet Assisted Therapy teams. 

This role is available for those volunteers 18+ and involves bringing your pets on visits, not animals at the shelter. 

Available Shifts: One hour bimonthly shifts (i.e.,  2 x’s a month). Days/hours vary. Weekly shifts are also an option.

Training required: Passing Canine Good Citizen Test (i.e., dogs), Zoom Interview, Passing Animal Temperament

 

PAT - Paws for Tales (Registration) – Registration of children to read to dogs at library.  

Training Required: Shadow, Outreach Training and Background Check

Available Shifts:  

  • Belmont library (2nd Tues, 6:00-7:00 pm
  • Foster City library (3rd Tues, 6:30-7:30 pm)
  •    North Fair Oaks library (Redwood City) (3rd Tues, 4:00-5:00 pm)
  •  Portola Valley library (1st Tues, 4:00-5:00 pm)
  •  San Bruno library (2nd Fri, 3:30-4:30 pm).
