Please note: Our Swim Lesson Assistant opportunity is only available for volunteers 15 years of age or older who have completed their Bronze Cross and Swim Instructor certifications. We do not have opportunities to volunteer in our Aquatics programs without these certifications at this time. 

Applying to Volunteer

Please note: interviews will take place seasonally, based on program needs. Recruitment for Aquatics volunteers will typically take place each January, March and June and August.

Step 1: Review Eligibility

To apply to be an Aquatics volunteer, you must:

  • Be 15 years of age or older
  • Have completed Bronze Cross certification
  • Have completed Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
  • Be eligible to volunteer in Canada (check your travel documents, if applicable)

Step 2: Apply
  • Fill in an application
  • Attend an interview
  • Submit 2 references
  • Complete a Police Information Check
Step 3: Getting Started
  • All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Orientation. Some positions may require additional training prior to their first shift. Your Volunteer Orientation will include an introduction to your Volunteer Supervisor and the facility in which you’ll be volunteering.
  • Following your Volunteer Orientation, you will officially be a member of the Aquatics volunteer team, and you will be able to sign up for volunteer opportunities using MyVolunteerPage.
  • This process can take up to 6 weeks, so we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Volunteer opportunities are posted seasonally in line with the City's Leisure Guide.

Volunteer Opportunities

Swim Lesson Assistant

Assist in the delivery of high-quality Swim for Life swim lessons by providing instructional support, demonstrating skills, and helping children to achieve their learning goals. This is a great opportunity for those who have completed their swim instructor and lifeguarding certifications to practice their skills as they prepare for a career in aquatics programming.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 15 years of age
  • Completion of Bronze Cross
  • Completion of Swim Instructor certification
  • Completion of Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Experience working with children an asset
  • Fluent in spoken English (fluency in a second language is an asset)
