Book Trolley Service

Mater Mental Health Centre, Waratah

Support wellbeing and connection by helping manage a library and book trolley service for consumers in our acute inpatient units. This role offers a calm and meaningful way to engage with consumers, carers, and families—providing distraction, enjoyment, and friendly conversation through the gift of reading.

Key Tasks:

  • Process Donations: Sort through donated books and magazines
  • Library Maintenance: Organise the volunteer library space—categorising materials and managing items in need of repair or disposal.
  • Trolley Organisation: Load and restock the book trolley with a curated selection of reading material for delivery across units.
  • Trolley Rounds: Safely transport and operate the trolley through designated areas of the Centre, offering books and magazines to consumers, carers, and families.
  • Engagement: Provide warm and respectful conversation while offering books.
  • Staff Liaison: Build and maintain positive relationships with unit staff.
  • Digital Library Access: Volunteers are trained to help consumers access digital library services, increasing options for those who prefer or need digital formats.
