Online One­-on­-One English Tutor

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide informal language opportunities to help newcomers practice and improve their English communication skills
  • Encourage and support learners
  • Share information about living in Winnipeg
  • Provide information about Canadian life, culture and customs

Qualifications and Skills

  • Long-time Canadian or established Immigrant
  • Fluent in English with minimum CLB of 8 or equivalent
  • Adult EAL/ESL teaching experience or certification (e.g. Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language, CTESL) is an asset. 
  • Other teaching or tutoring experience is an asset
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Patience
  • Experience using online video-conferencing such as Zoom, FaceTime or Skype

Location and Time Commitment

  • 1.5 hours per week
  • Minimum three-month commitment required
  • One meeting per week minimum
  • Shifts available on weekdays, evenings and Saturdays 
  • Tutors and clients meet online via their choice of video conferencing platform (e.g. Zoom, FaceTime, Skype)
