One­-to­-One English Tutor - Saturdays and Weekday Evenings

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help newcomers develop their English language skills
  • Prepare materials and topics of discussion for each meeting
  • Provide clients with feedback on their progress


Qualifications and Skills

  • Fluent in English with minimum CLB of 8 or equivalent
  • Ability to instruct and offer guidance
  • EAL/ESL (English as an Additional/Second Language) or other previous teaching experience an asset
  • Desire to help newcomers learn English
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Patience


Location and Time Commitment

  • 1.5 hours per week
  • Minimum three-month commitment required
  • One meeting per week minimum
  • Shifts available on weekdays, evenings and Saturdays 
  • Tutors and clients meet at the Immigrant Centre. Tutors may be permitted to meet off-site with their client, if they are willing to pay for and submit a Criminal Record Certificate.  Off-site meetings must take place in a public location (e.g. book store, library etc.)
