Companionship Calls

 

 

 

 

 

Provide a weekly touchpoint to someone who may be alone and isolated. Social interaction can improve negative feelings of loneliness, sadness and anxiety. Calls may also support an overwhelmed caregiver through supportive listening.

WHAT TRAINING IS INVOLVED?

All volunteers receive basic training upon applying to the team. Specific training for this position includes: active listening skills, how to handle an emergency situation and how to report the needs of patients and families.

HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?

Volunteers often make calls weekly for 1-2 hours. Calls are made based on volunteer’s schedule and need of census.

POSITION BEST SUITED FOR:

Those who are compassionate, empathetic listeners and enjoy engaging with others. Those who are comfortable in a healthcare environment and can take initiative to learn ways to support patients.
