Note: This role has an age requirement of 18+ years.

Summary:

The YMCA Calgary Re/start Program supports youth who have been suspended from the Shane Homes YMCA. It provides a structured, welcoming environment that fosters growth and reflection. The program helps youth build skills and resilience to succeed at the YMCA and beyond.

As a Re/start Program Volunteer, you will play an important role in creating a respectful and supportive atmosphere for participants. Working alongside staff, you will encourage youth to engage in meaningful activities while providing mentorship and positive role modeling. All volunteers receive training to ensure they feel confident and prepared.

Time Commitment

-    Minimum 1-year commitment
-    Program runs Fridays from 3:00-4:30pm on an as-needed basis
-    Shifts may vary depending on participant numbers

Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety 

1.    Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures.
2.    Build positive relationships with youth, staff, and fellow volunteers.
3.    Prompt communication regarding any concerns during shifts.

Program Support 

1.    Provide mentorship and positive role modeling for participants
2.    Support and engage youth in structured lessons and activities 
3.    Facilitate or co-facilitate group discussions, lessons, and activities
4.    Promote a safe, inclusive environment
5.    Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of program materials
6.    Encourage personal growth, responsibility, and positive behavior

Qualifications 

1.    Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (volunteer letter will be provided upon a successful interview)
2.    Three references (two professional)
3.    Ability to attend and complete required training
