YMCA Calgary Volunteer Position
Volunteer Title: Gymnasium Attendant
Location: Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton, and Shawnessy YMCA
Reports To: Sports Supervisor

Note: This role has an age requirement of 18+ years.
Summary
Gymnasium Attendants help provide positive experiences and promote healthy communities at our
YMCA’s by building relationship with gymnasium drop-in participants. Gymnasium Volunteers help
supervise the gymnasiums during drop-in hours. This position includes helping make drop-in gym a
welcoming area by talking to participants as well as helping ensure everyone is safe and following the rules.
Time Commitment
This position requires a 6-month commitment. Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are 2 hours in length and typically scheduled on evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
- Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
- Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift
Program Support
- Ensure safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Manage risks associated with participation in programs
- Trouble shoot and provide conflict resolution to any appointment bookings or user concerns
- Set up and take down equipment

- Can think quick on your feet and can problem solve to de-escalate situations

- Ability to stand for 2 hours
