Volunteer Title: Digital Communications & Web Support (Practicum Student)

Location: Various Locations & Remote (Hybrid Option Available)

Reports To: Web & Digital Communications Lead

Summary:

This practicum opportunity is ideal for a student with an interest in digital marketing, website development or communications. The role will support the web redesign project, assist with content creation, contribute to social media activities, and help coordinate digital elements of brand and community events. The student will gain valuable experience in a not-for-profit setting while building hands-on skills in digital communications.

 

Time Commitment:

Position runs for 10 weeks from July 28 – October 3, 8 – 10 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible and may include in-person, hybrid, or remote work depending on the task.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in auditing and updating website content across multiple pages.

2. Support the Web & Digital Communications team in implementing website changes using Drupal.

3. Draft short form copies for social media, blog posts, web pages, and event promotion.

4. Assist with uploading and organizing photo and video content.

5. Support in-branch brand events by capturing photos and/or creating Instagram stories.

6. Help track performance and optimize digital campaigns and compile basic reports using Google Analytics or social platforms.

7. Participate in brainstorming and planning meetings for upcoming web and communications projects.

 

Skills:

1. Interest in digital marketing, communications, and web development

2. Strong written communication and attention to detail

3. Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok)

4. Basic experience with CMS tools (like Wix, WordPress or Drupal) is an asset

5. Creativity and ability to take initiative

6. Able to work independently and collaboratively

7. Comfortable navigating new platforms or systems with guidance

8. Open to occasional in-person event support

1. Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (YMCA will provide a letter)

3. Must be currently enrolled in a college/university practicum or co-op program

4. Ability to attend virtual or in-person training sessions as required
